Crib Lem (Llech Ddu Spur) Guided Scramble
Easy scrambling in dramatic scenery, one of the best and least known scrambles in Snowdonia!
Crib Lem is a hidden gem which follows a prominent ridge that heads up the north side of Carnedd Dafydd, a place which feels far more remote than the popular Ogwen Valley. Away from the traffic jams on the likes of Crib Goch and Tryfan's North Ridge, it is not uncommon to have the entire north side of the mountains to yourself. Yet although it sees far fewer ascents than other popular routes in northern Snowdonia, the scrambling is excellent.
After a long yet easy walk from the village of Bethesda, the dark and imposing crag of Llech Ddu (black slate) rears up like something from a fantasy novel, a sinister Mount Doom. Amazingly, the Llech Ddu Spur guided scramble, or Crib Lem, manages to find an easy way up through this daunting terrain.
